Time For Wonderlust

Time For Wonderlust: Planning Your Retirement Renaissance

By: Forrest J. Wright / Narrated By: Peter Lerman

Length: 5 hrs and 50 mins

Not about retirement but Philosophy…?!?

I mean, really?!? No, really. I kid you not.

The first hour, hour and a half, okay. Wright speaks of conspicuous consumption and how that means we’re not saving as much. Plus, we really need to downsize our lives and be content with what we have, rather than what we want. That’s fine.

But then Time For Wonderlust turns into a book about Philosophy (the P is TOTALLY capitalized!). Wright begins it by saying how our lives, when we retire, can now be filled with room so that we might take part in cultural activities, how we can expand our minds. With that, I was very much onboard when he started talking Philosophy. Now there’s a subject that can make one ponder life, death, goodness, existence.

But he zoooooms past all that and begins discussing the history of Philosophy, the history of Philosophers (TOTALLY capitalized the P) during their times. He speaks at length about their doctrines and prevailing beliefs at the time.

For hours…

For HOURS! Thank heavens it was a short book because I came away really confused as to how the title came into existence. Shoulda been called: A Scooching Over of Philosophers During Their Day. Peter Lerman turns in an adequate performance, but it wasn’t enough to make any sparks of interest ignite in my mind or soul. ‘Cause I was just so goshdarned confused.

A fairly short listen, but if you’re into Philosophy (hmmm… I think I should still capitalize the P?), you might find a bit of this interesting, but quite frankly, there are better, more in-depth works out there. Those might start a little light burning in your soul. This one?

Nope; as I said: not even a tiny spark… :(
