The Enchanted April - Eleanor Bron

The Enchanted April

By: Elizabeth von Arnim / Narrated By: Eleanor Bron

Length: 8 hrs and 9 mins

What a delightful surprise!

I have to admit it: I’m a sucker for light-reads, especially if they have a little romance in them. So sue me, already!

I went into The Enchanted April with low expectations (got it cheap; it’s a light-read; blah blah blah). Gosh, how delighted I was to find a delicate weaving of the lives of four very different women, all transported to a place Lottie can only describe as Heaven. And in Heaven nothing can go wrong.

Boring, right? Happy endings and all that?   >Yawn<

No, not at all!

And it’s all because each woman’s story is compelling, their flaws are real, and what they want is not what they need. Heaven doesn’t allow for whining, and there are no excuses.

While Lottie is the main character, Rose, with her tragic background is a standout, Scraps (Lady Caroline) is amusing since her outer beauty never conveys the inner ugliness she’d oh so like to display, and Mrs. Fisher (who can’t do this, that, the other… because of her “stick”) is beset by a restlessness so powerful that even the memories of dead friends can’t pacify it. These are truly a wonderful group of women.

Okay, the men don’t come out looking so good, but even then, by the end, swine become gentlemen. Spoiler? I think not. You’re expecting a good book with a happy ending, right?

Well, look no further. The Enchanted April is waiting for you!
